Menya Noodle Bar – Chinatown

A few Saturdays ago, I had lunch at Menya Noodle Bar in Chinatown. Despite the time being close to 3pm when we arrived,  this little shop in Haymarket was still very busy serving out bowls of ramen.

Here’s what we ordered for a late lunch:

  • Menya Tonkotsu Ramen with roasted pork, fish cake, bamboo shoots, shallot, sesame seed, dried seaweed and seasoned boiled egg ($9.90)
  • Kara-age Ramen with deep-fried chicken, fish cake, bamboo shoots, shallots and sesame seed ($11.90)

Our food was served promptly and whilst it wasn’t the best ramen I’ve had in Sydney, my rich in collagen tonkotsu soup was filling for a winter meal- the highlight of my Menya Tonkotsu Ramen was the slice of roast pork. I didn’t get to taste the Kara-age ramen, but it looked like we should have asked them to separate the deep-fried chicken from the soup to retain the crunch!
